A Handmade Christmas- the In-law quilts

When I started talking about this crazy idea of a handmade Christmas with Jeremy, there was a lot of debate about various things. One of the first was size- because we both knew that feasibly I couldn’t make four full size quilts by Christmas. We decided that making lap quilts and wall quilts would be a good compromise.

This year, we decided on lap quilts for my in-laws. They live where it gets very cold and snowy, so being able to cuddle up with quilts was a great idea. I showed Jeremy some ideas off of Pinterest, then took him with me to my local quilt store to have him look at fabrics in person.  After he looked around, we ended up ordering two layer cakes by Northcott Fabrics from their Stonehenge line for the fronts and coordinating fabrics in 108″ wide for the backing and binding.

Jeremy was a huge help with these quilts. He helped with cutting, quilting, sewing, basting, and was chief quilt holder for most of these photos.

Finished size on both quilts is approximately 52×60. They were quilted with 50wt Gutermann 100% cotton thread in various colors, and the batting is a high loft cotton/poly blend.
